[Replicant]
Real Name: Anthony “Tony” Gambi
Known Relatives: Paul (uncle), Peter (uncle or father, deceased)*
Occupation: Criminal, instrument of vengeance
Group Affiliation: The Rogues
Base of Operations: Central City, Missouri
First Appearance: Flash Secret Files #2 (November 1999)
Created By: Mark Waid, Brian Augustyn, and Ron Lim

His mother dead and his father in jail, young Tony Gambi was left in the care of his uncle Paul, tailor to the Rogues Gallery. He grew up with the Rogues as his family and heroes. On a later visit to Central City, he observed a battle between the dark Flash, Captain Cold and Captain Boomerang in which Boomerang was nearly killed.

The crippled Boomerang, seeing the change in attitude for this new Flash, gathered the Rogues together and enlisted the aid of T.O. Morrow—a criminal scientist whose specialty was copying future technology to use in the present—to create a new, ruthless Rogue: a being who could replicate the powers of any weapon he came into contact with. Tony volunteered for the process—it was his chance to help out the guys who had looked out for him as a kid—and became the Replicant.

During the transformation, he absorbed the weapons of the main Rogues, Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Weather Wizard, Heat Wave, Dr. Alchemy, giving him power over illusion, weather, transmutation, heat and cold... and after his first encounter with the Flash, he headed straight for the Trickster’s weapons stash.

Replicant worked briefly for Abra Kadabra before being captured.

Notes

*Peter Gambi was also a tailor—and a former hit man—who designed Black Lightning’s costume to make up for his past misdeeds. He died early in that hero’s career. It is not clear whether Tony is Peter’s son or the child of another Gambi sibling.
