Background on Sussurr

Sussurr (suh-SUR) belongs to a rare class of dragonkin with pinioned (feathered) rather than membranous wings; his name comes from the sound his wings make in flight. In appearance, Sussurr has gold-red hair (again, the color of his scales in half-dragon and dragon forms), violet eyes, and red-and-gold wings; his temporal ridges are elongated so as to look like horns, and he has a thirty-centimeter-high double crest on his head. He is ten or twelve centimeters taller than Shree, and considerably more muscular; he was also orphaned at birth, adopted by a young woman who made her living by shipping cargo across the Daray Channel (it lies behind the castle) and years of hauling cargo have made him very strong. He is a few days younger than Shree. He tends to be reserved, but he possesses a razor-sharp wit; he is an expert at negotiation and verbal sparring, an experienced fast-talker. He can intimidate without appearing threatening. However, he is not too inventive, preferring to stick to his tried-and-true methods.

I expect that he and Shree will share many adventures together, if only because Sussurr is grateful to Shree and feels that he owes him something for rescuing him. They have plenty of potential for complementing each other's personalities, but there are also areas of conflict that get them into a lot of trouble. (For example: once they meet Silvera, and I don't doubt that they will, Shree and Sussurr will react very differently. As we have seen in the past, Shree is not much given to argument and knows when he's not going to get a question answered; Sussurr, on the other hand, WILL NOT put up with that, and, if he says he's not going anywhere until he gets an answer, you better know he means it. Sussurr is almost as strong-willed as Silvera -which is not to say that Shree is not; logic, rather than emotion, is his primary approach to life- and he will probably give her a lot of grief. Note that this is not necessarily a bad thing as far as Silvera is concerned: her identity is still cloaked in mystery, and her reaction can be entirely unexpected.
