The Dragon's Cry

Go to Introduction

You decide to try to free yourself before the footsteps arrive. You continue working the ropes, loosening the knots until you have freed one of your hands. Reaching around, you rip the shroud from your head -- and realize you're hanging about four meters above the cave floor. You can hear voices now, coming from the same direction where you can just see the glimmer of torchlight. Fortunately the floor below you looks flat enough, if a bit rugged.

The stalactites and stalagmites around you cast sharp, dancing shadows about you in the pale light of the torch, and the voices get louder as you manage to get your other arm free. Working feverishly, you reach for the ropes binding your legs. With luck, you might be able to twist yourself around and land on your feet.

The torchlight is brighter now, and you can pick out a few words. "...almost there. He'll be out for a few more hours--" Suddenly the torch appears at one end of the cave, almost blinding to your dark-adjusted eyes, and two dark humanoid shapes stop in alarm. "He's getting loose!" Your grip on the rope slips, and the loosened knots give way, dropping you headfirst at the ground. You try to grab it with your tail, but the rope burn you receive does nothing to break your fall.

As you slam into the ground, you feel a sting in your side as a knife grazes your ribs and clatters to the ground. Staggering to your feet, you see the two shapes rushing at you, silhouetted by the torch, dropped on the ground ahead of you.

What will you do?
