The Dragon's Cry

Go to Introduction

"Come on, Sussurr - let's see if there are any other passages," you say.

Your companion remains at the window, out of your sight, as you make your way to the next grandfather clock. You open the front...

Suddenly a powerful wind reaches out, dragging you down, shrieking subconsciously at the top of your lungs. You see a vast landscape below you, and turn above to see the door of the clock shattering with the force of your scream.

No way back, no way for Sussurr to follow...

You twist back again, your only hope to transform into dragon form before you make a dent in the topsoil -- make that snow - it looks like the entire landscape is covered with snow, as far as you can see.

Desperately, you begin the transformation to dragon form. Pain lances through you as broken bones change size and shape, grinding against each other, and you shriek again. The dressings of your wounds snap off, and all at once, the pain eases and you are in full dragon form.

Somewhat dazed, it takes you a few seconds to unfold your wings -- carefully, so as not to let the wind twist them back at the speed of your fall.

AAAUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Your wings caught the wind, all right -- but your wings caught your broken ribs. But you're slowing now.

Slowly, painfully, you manage to decelerate and direct yourself horizontally -- but the ground keeps coming up. Finally, deciding you're way too close to pull out, you fold your wings up again and pray the snow will be enough to break your fall.

WHAAAMMMM!!!!!

Five minutes later, and reverted to human form by the shock, you manage to pull yourself out of the snow. Behind you lies a kilometers-long trough where you slammed into the ground, a huge pileup of snow ahead of you.

You climb to the top of the drift and see that if you had stopped any later, you probably would have slammed into a village of some sort. Everything seems to be in reds and whites, and a bright-colored sign proclaims the name of the settlement Christmas Town.

"What's this?"

The End

Return to the beginning and try a new path.
