What Happened to the Libretto?

Shutdown

This morning I received a fax and a corresponding email from Cameron Mackintosh Overseas, Ltd. The text is available here, but the upshot is that I can no longer post the lyrics to the show. I'll keep up the links page and the review of Les Miseranimals, but the lyrics are being removed today.

I've worked on this site for nearly five years at AOL and UCI, knowing this was possible the whole time, but for some reason they never bothered to contact me until now. I'd hoped they would continue to look the other way, but they apparently decided they could no longer do so. Maybe getting my own domain name made them take me more seriously; who knows?

I don't have the resources to look into putting together an authorized collection, and I doubt I would be able to get approval if I did.

I want to thank everyone who has helped me over the years by sending me lyrics, and everyone who has visited the site. It's been a good run.

Sincerely,
Kelson Vibber

Follow-Up

I appreciate the letters of support I have received from all over the world since this site closed nine months ago. I haven't written back to most of you, but I would like to thank you all.

I am, however, amazed at the number of people who continue to request lyrics, all this time later: those who have lost their liner notes, or purchased the cassette instead of the CD, or want to sing a song in French for a talent show, or are just curious about the translations. Even after nine months I still get several requests a week.

This just shows how much of a demand there is for this material that, apparently, Cameron Mackintosh Overseas, Ltd. does not want you to see. Unfortunately, I cannot send it to anyone for the reasons explained below, so please do not ask for them.
