Tumbleweed Cluster
September 5th, 2007 by Kelson. Posted in Strange World and tagged for tumbleweedsTumbleweeds tend to collect along roadsides and fences in Orange County, dropping their seeds for the next year. This can lead to some spectacular clusters of car-sized puffballs of plant.

In a few weeks*, these will dry out, turn brown, and get picked up by the Santa Ana winds. They’ll roll along the road until they hit a fence, or perhaps fetch up against another cluster, and the cycle will start all over again.
* Or possibly already — I took this photo about 3 weeks ago, and with this past week’s heat wave, I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

I don’t think I’d ever seen (/recognized) any that weren’t already brown.

That is starting to look like $$$$.
I read about a guy who started a college project as a joke selling tumbleweeds and now his making thousands selling the dried weeds to people all over the world. I think he may have taken it a little farther than tumbleweeds though with dirtbags and skipping rocks.

Mr. Tumbleweeds for Sale, if that is your real name, I’m half-inclined to delete your comment as spam… except for the fact that there’s already a link to your site on another post here.
