Registration weirdness explained: When I installed over the beta, it kept the registration info. It also kept things like "Opera 8 Beta" as the app title, so I figured I'd uninstall it and do a clean reinstall. That also wiped the reg code, so I had to re-enter it. For some strange reason lost to the mists of time, the only email I had saved on the Windows box was the reg code for the Linux version, which, naturally, wouldn't work.

(And I complain when other people don't read carefully...)

Opera 7 users are indeed entitled to a free upgrade to Opera 8, so your code would have been valid even if you didn't install over Opera 7.x.

One of the things I love about Opera (And the main reason I use it over FF or IE) is the ability to cutomise it. This allows the interface to become as complex or as simple as you like. I vary rarely see the default interface, so can't comment on how cluttered it is. However I'll agree that firefox appears to have a simpler interface for people who don't feel like investing significant ammounts of time customising it. (Plus, until version 8 Opera had some of the most hideous preferences dialogs in the world.)
