They're too big to go in your pocket, but too small for everyday work. They have slightly more functionality than your G1, but they can't phone and they're a lot less functional than a laptop. They're slightly more expensive than a high-end smartphone (but they can't phone and aren't as portable) and slightly less expensive than a laptop (but they don't have the speed and storage of a laptop). Even knowing that, I've considered a netbook from time to time. Instead, I think I'm just going to save up and get a smaller laptop (like a 13")...
