With the newly aquired Electric Daisy Rave that L.A. lost to Vegas this year, it is proof that Vegas is a superior environment to host the CCI.... 200+ thousand people and not a single problem....When the CES is in town we also host the AVN awards, thats 2 mega conventions at the same time!

Too late, CCI will be coming here and all of your buddies will get to park for free, eat for less and stay at the hotels for less, even if the hotels are not on the strip they will be shuttled to CCI for free 24 hours a day!

cant wait for 2013......

I never said we'd be treated any differently. I said we'd want our experience to be different than what it would likely be. Big difference.

As for the price and travel-time arguments, I think I may be appending an ETA in the near future. We hadn't used the hotel shuttle routes in SD much when I wrote the original, and our experiences in more recent years have pretty much nullified my huge-long-walk complaint. And as other posters have said, around LVCC there's just generally cheaper stuff.

Hm…on second look, the Wynn is farther from the center than I remembered. So relatively cheap hotels nearby, yay!

And I didn't say the city couldn't contain CCI, but that the experiences I've had there have led me to believe it wouldn't really want our type of congoer around. It's changed since I first visited in 1998.

i live and work in las vegas and i think your an idiot. We live off of conventions and we would treat you just the same as any other convention. Shuttle service is great here, and cheaper dining is easy to find with a little research.

Being a Las Vegan, 9+ years, you have it mostly wrong. LVCC not only can hold CCI but hold two of them.

As for room rates. LVCC is farther down the strip, where much more affordable hotels rates.
The same hold true for food and everything else.

Had orientation yesterday for working comic-con next week , some of the top dogs spoke with us about their expectations and etc. But anyway they indirectly confirmed that this is the last comic con in my beautiful city of SD. What it comes down to is the new CA regulations and tax increase that CCI will have to adjust to next year will likely cause the move, although the contract doesn't expire until 2012, it is very likely their going to pull from SD by next year. Vegas is offering a lot of perks and amenities not to pass on, and it hurts to say it but CCI has sold out to corporate America... I SD figures something out to invest money, CCI is a cash cow that benefits the SD economy greatly. Last I heard from the newspapers there are plans to expand the convention center and build an in house hotel (Hilton) within the convention center. All that back area behind the convention center would become part of the convention center, but idk I haven't heard of any further developments. Well regardless cherish CCI this year the most since its most likely it will be the last :(

As I said in a reply to Kris above, unless you live in one of the ridiculously expensive condos on the Strip, I'm not talking about the part of Las Vegas that you live in. I'm talking about the part where the convention center is, and where the majority of people attending this convention would be hanging out for the majority of their stay in the area. Also, "nightmare" was used in reference to the traffic on the Strip, not the city itself; and I did list some good things about possibly moving the con. Sorry this didn't get across to you.

Never waited more than 15 minutes for a shuttle in vegas in my 26 years here, the convention center has covered sealed air conditioned walkways above the street that access several resorts like the sands. I've been to the strip countless times during CES and never had to wait to be seated in a resaurant. Las vegas's whole identity is being the city that can handle events that seem huge and outrageous. Prices in vegas are ALWAYS cheaper than food in other cities. Casinos operate at a loss on food sometimes because they know people will drop $20 in a machine on the way in or out. Where else can you find a filet and lobster dinner for $6.99. Vegas is the place , and i know after the first year everyone will be saying "they should have moved it here years ago." Let's face facts San Diego = ZOO + Chargers, Las Vegas = Humongous awesome party town

No, I do not think all Vegas residents live on the Strip. (How? The houses are all out elsewhere.) Thank you, though, for pointing out my unintentional equating of the city with the Strip; it wasn't an attempt to say they are one and the same, but I believe that most congoers wouldn't be in a position to discover the difference. I am perfectly aware that the majority of Vegas is composed of suburban sprawl. We've driven, and been shuttled, through quite a bit of it in efforts to avoid Strip traffic. But the basic rule of humanity, that People Are Lazy, dictates that most people attending a convention held near (and possibly partially on) the Strip will want to eat and sleep close to the Strip, and/or will be unable to get far enough away to see much of the rest of the city. In SD, most of the out-of-towners eat and recreate near either the convention center or their hotels, and that's in a place where tourists are encouraged to use the public transportation to do things outside the downtown area. I admit that I haven't researched the public transportation outside the Strip area, but as I've been a tourist attending events exclusively in the Strip area, I haven't had a need. You can bet (no pun intended) that I would, though, if the con were to move.
