Inauguration Speech

No sound here, so I’m reading a transcript of Obama’s speech. Based on its length, I’m guessing he’s still giving it. #

Tax Dancer

Amusing: Someone hit this post after searching for “dancing tax preparer.” Is it really that common? #

Login Form Fail, Pinhole Bridge

  • Pet peeve: Login forms that move the cursor to the username field AFTER the page finishes loading. Sometimes I’m already typing by then. #
  • Weird: I feel tired, but I’m acting like I’m still on caffeine. #
  • Cool: A 6-month-exposure photo showing sun trails above a bridge, made using a pinhole camera made from a soda can #

Catalina Island Inversion

Catalina Inversion, originally uploaded by Kelson.

The south end of Santa Catalina Island as viewed from Newport Beach this morning around 9am. The winds have cleared out a lot of the haze that would normally obscure the island, and I had a great view of its entire length.

Interestingly, while the sky seemed clearer at 8am than at 9am, by which time a thin layer of gray haze clung to the horizon, the photos taken at 9 are sharper. It’s almost as if the dust settled during that hour, clearing above the layer and obscuring below it.

There was also a definite mirage caused by that same layer. You can tell the lower 1/3 of the island is distorted.

Lenticular Cloud

Lenticular Cloud 3, originally uploaded by Kelson.

Spotted this and another cloud on Saturday, looking north. Possibly over the San Gabriels?

Weirdness

  1. It’s still foggy.
  2. My Windows box is crashing again.
  3. Twhirl is staying faded, as if in the background, but I can still type.
  4. Only one Microsoft update this month! Of course it’s critical, remote code exec, in all current versions of Windows, AND requires a restart…
