Deposition of Deposition

They're always clapping louder when they're clapping for you
And the audience is all strangers when you're standing on the stage
When the spotlights flood your eyes you only think of here and now
And you can bet anything you won't like it when things finally change

It's a whole new life when the lights go down
In an empty room with no one else around
No one to hang on your every word when
You make a decision that might affect them
Once the people have gone away and
You've tossed the plan
You know somewhere inside
They'll never look at you the same again

Time will pass more slowly when you walk on that thin line
When you're balancing the answers and your voice can shake the world
And then your loudest shout cannot command a leaf to fall
And the ones once in your power haven't heard a single word

It's a long way down and it knocks you out
And you wonder what it was all about
When you don't stand where you used to be
They don't care, they don't even see
And they say to themselves, I hope next is me
They think they can
And if they can take your place
They'll never look at you the same again

It's not hard to remember when you've lost the way it feels
Your fifteen-minute meter's in the red
You have to bridge the gap with something
Have to fill the hole somehow
You can't hold on with a shadow of a doubt
You can't pay back so you have to live it out

So chase your star and hold on tight
And don't say impossible 'cause you just might
When things are changing too fast to know
You have to have something that won't let go
But even if you've gotten so
You understand
It may be less but it's there forever
Have to go on and keep it together
Always remember never say never
Take a stand
Though ordinary's such a lonely word
And they'll never look at you the same again
